I am the Learning Commons Facilitator / Library Technician at

George McDougall High School

I am trained as a library technician and have happily worked in the library / learning commons field for 30 years in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and here in Alberta.

I'm a member of the Library Association of Alberta, Foothills Library Association and I'm a movie buff, a fan of reading real newspapers, and I enjoy high realism fiction but can recommend other forms of fiction and non-fiction research to readers using such tools as LearnAlberta.ca, Goodreads, School Library Journal's 'Teen Librarian Toolbox' and 'YA Review.'

I encourage students to read whatever they can whenever they can.

Image Literacy block in the learning commons
During the school's literacy block everyone in the school reads for 20 minutes. Rockyview's Literacy Specialist, Jody Moore says, "The research is very clear about the rewards of motivating kids to read, to think deeply, to talk about what they have read and to find something new. After all, practice makes perfect so that means read, read and read." Check out her blog at: https://blogs.rockyview.ab.ca
