I teach English Language Arts 10, 20 and 30 at George McDougall High School

Hello and welcome to my page! I am very excited to be teaching English Language Arts at George McDougall High School. I have experience teaching all senior high levels. I attended Mount Royal University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English and a minor in psychology. Afterwards, I attended the University of Calgary for my Bachelor of Education, with a Secondary English Language Arts background. I also have a variety of experiences working with youth on a personal and academic level. In my spare time, I enjoy music, engaging in co-ed softball and Dodgeball, and watching comedy.

I believe students will be most engaged and learn the most effectively if they are at the center of their own learning. I believe all students have the right to learn and should engage in their strengths and challenge themselves in their weaknesses. It is important for students to recognize their strengths and weaknesses as they venture through the “real world” so that students are constantly learning about their environment, but also themselves. I am a strong advocate for self-growth and challenge, so it is my promise to plant these seeds in the students’ minds and help them succeed and grow into contributing members of society.

We will be studying a variety of texts of different genres, and creating connections between self and literature. Creating relationships and connections between text and self is important in the depth of understanding for students since literature is used to communicate further ideas.

I have high standards for my students, and I will always try to push students to be their best version of themselves. It is my job to teach my students and make sure they are learning, but the truth is, I will be learning so much from them as well.
