Learning

"Success Through Effort"

The above phrase says a great deal about the belief system that has been a cornerstone of George McDougall's success through the years.  For a very long time, it has been understood that ours is a school where all citizens achieve excellence because we work for it.  Staff will work hard to help their students achieve the best possible results.  Students, then, are expected to do the same.

Learning is, by its very nature, a task that requires effort to reap rewards.  Those who come to school with a clear idea of what they intend to achieve and how much work it will take to accomplish their goals are the ones most likely to achieve excellence.  Focus in class, study at home and commitment to a climate of compassion and mutual support will ensure that we all achieve our best.

We have high expectations of students at George McDougall High School.

  • We expect conduct that is respectful of the learning environment.  This ensures all who come here are able to take full advantage of the benefits of public education.
  • We expect students to attend regularly and punctually, as we believe that attention to these issues develops habits that serve all learners throughout their lives.
  • Finally, we expect that all in the building understand that there are times when work must be done at home.  While we do not assign homework for the sake of it, it is understood that there are complex tasks and learning experiences that require additional time and action in the community.

Those who embrace the commitments listed above achieve success.
