Learning Commons

Welcome to the George McDougall High School Learning Commons! You can come here to borrow books, laptops, and other materials needed for class projects and creative endeavours. The Learning Commons is a space available for class presentations, group collaborations, one-on-one meetings with educators and is also a popular area for gaming, quiet study or just relaxing between classes.

A typical learning commons is not simply a repository for books. It is where learning meets creativity and collaboration meets genius. It's where ideas are hatched for tomorrow's leaders.

Textbooks and novel studies are loaned for a period of one semester. They are due back BEFORE students write their final exams for that subject.

Students must write their names in every textbook and novel study along with the current school year to avoid mix-ups with their peers. If a textbook or novel study is returned but the barcode doesn't match the one the student was originally assigned they will not get credit for that book. Students must return the textbook or novel they were originally assigned to avoid charges.

Students will not be allowed to sign out new material until overdue item(s) are returned. Lost or damaged books must be paid for before a student will be allowed to sign out new material.  New textbooks are subject to a grafitti charge upon return of half the cost of the book. Students need only write their names and current school year in their textbooks.

At the end of the school year students with lost or damaged textbooks will not be permitted to purchase graduation tickets until books are either returned or replacement fee paid.

Any lost or damaged item from the Learning Commons may be paid at the GMHS Finance Office.

Land Acknowledgment

Rocky View Schools would like to acknowledge the land and recognize all the Indigenous Peoples whose footprints have marked these lands from time immemorial. Together, we can learn and honour the Ways of Knowing of Indigenous Peoples for all future generations.
